Ski area Großglockner Resort Kals-Matrei
The Großglockner Resort Kals-Matrei was created by merging the ski areas of Matrei and Kals and is considered the largest ski area in East Tyrol with an altitude of 933 to 2,426 metres, 40 kilometres of piste and 12 lift systems.
The ski area offers numerous descents for beginners and advanced winter sports enthusiasts. The Goldried gondola lift provides direct access to the ski area, while the Cimaross 6-seater chair lift takes you to the highest point of the ski area. There is a children's ski park with conveyor belt and igloo at the top station of the Goldfried cable car. Various fun elements such as boxes and wave runs are scattered throughout the ski area, but there is no classic-style snowpark with jumps.
Thanks to its altitude and modern snow-making facilities, the area is considered to be particularly reliable in terms of snow. One of the longest descent is the "Goldried" valley run, which is around 11 kilometres long. Challenging black pistes can be found on the Cimaross in the direction of Matrei and from the Blauspitze to Kals.
For freestylers, the Brunnalm ski area in St. Jakob im Defereggental offers a creative range of obstacles and lines with the "defRaggn Snowpark".
