St. Georgen ob Murau is the main town in the municipality of St. Georgen am Kreischberg, which has a population of around 1,400. The two districts of St. Georgen and St. Lorenzen are connected by what is currently the largest self-supporting wooden bridge in Europe, a fascinating landmark in the region. Thanks to its close proximity to both the Kreischberg and the Frauenalpe, skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts of all ages have the opportunity to explore a varied and family-friendly ski area.

But the region also has a lot to offer away from the slopes. Numerous mountain huts, pubs and bars offer excellent regional specialities as well as music and parties until late into the night.

Murau-Kreischberg

The region Murau-Kreischberg is part of the Mur Valley and is located in the federal state of Styria, not far from the border to Carinthia. The valley is surrounded by the mountain massifs of the Niedere Tauern and the Nock Mountains. Romantic towns and villages in the valley and loads of winter fun on 42 km of piste, at altitudes up to 2,118 m, await you here. Medieval buildings and the castle of Murau give this region a very special character. Especially families with children will feel welcome here, thanks to the mostly easy to intermediate pistes.

The Kreischberg was further the venue to the Snowboard World Championships in 2003, as well as the FIS Freestyle Ski & Snowboard World Championships in 2015 and hence is known far and wide, even across the borders of Austria.
