Ski holidays Friedrichroda - relaxing holiday in the Thuringian Forest!

Friedrichroda

In the north-west of the Thuringian Forest lies the spa resort Friedrichroda, cosily embedded between the mountains and the extensive forest areas. As a part of the national park "Thüringer Wald", the resort is the ideal place to go for health-conscious travellers, nature-lovers and sports fans alike - both in summer and winter. A special feature for hikers and cross-country skiers, is the close proximity to the Rennsteig, the popular long-distance hiking trails along the peaks of the mountains in the Thuringian Forest. Where the summer hikers can enjoy beautiful views, the Nordic skiers can follow the 170 km long trail in winter, extending from Ascherbrück right up to Brennergrün.

The prettiest part of the resort, Finsterbergen, is the perfect starting place for cross-country skiers, from where the trails lead through pretty larch forests and wonderful mountain landscapes. Friedrichroda is also known as the home to Germany's only natural bob-sleigh run, which is still used for competitions. The resort is the local training campsite.

Thuringian Forest

In the heart of Germany lies the Thuringian Forest, a largest forested and hilly area in the federal state of Thuringia. The approx. 150 m long and 35 km wide terrain around the Rennsteig is ideal for a short break and some easy skiing. Wonderful nature, clear air and beautiful winter landscapes are waiting here for you, in the western part of the area, near Neustadt. Let yourself be inspired by the pretty castles and fortresses and wander on the paths of ancient poets - the German masters of literature, Goethe and Schiller, both spent time in this region. Snow-covered forests and volcanic rock has formed this area to make it what it is today and will surely entice you with its beauty.
