Ski holidays Sestriere - Olympic pistes with Italian-French ambience!

Sestriere (Via Lattea)

Sestriere lies about 100 km away from Turin, at an altitude of 2,035 m and is therefore right in the middle of the gorgeous alpine region of Piedmont. The border to France is not too far away, which allows for an international mix of France and Italy's love for life along and great winter sports. Sestriere is a winter sports destination which was created in the 1930's for the purpose of tourism. Several important international competitions have already taken place here, however, such as the Alpine Ski Championship in 1997 and the Turin Winter Olympics in 2006. Sestriere is counted as the highest-lying venue of the winter games. The two hotel towers at the resort entrance were home to the 1,700 athletes and support teams of the winter games, thus making it an Olympic village, what to this day is still the landmark of the area. Architecturally, Sestriere reflects a French ski resort - the ski arena, however, is typical Italian.

The Via Lattea, which translated to "Milky Way", offers a huge selection of runs for all levels of difficulty in its border-crossing ski area. Off the piste, you'll find a number of free time activities to participate in such as heated outdoor pools, tennis, squash and the highest-lying 18 hole golf course in Europe. In the evenings, you can live "la dolce vita" in one of the many cosy restaurants or let loose in one of the bars or discos and experience après ski culture!

Via Lattea

The extensive Via Lattea ski area is located directly on the French-Italian border at an altitude of 1,380 - 2,800 metres. The ski area can be accessed from both Italy and France. With 400 kilometres of pistes and 70 lifts, the "Milky Way" offers galactic skiing fun for every level of ability! Made famous by the 1997 World Ski Championships and most recently by the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, the Via Lattea offers numerous challenging runs. Sestriere was once again the venue for the Ski World Cup in the 2016/17 season.
