Ski holidays Samoëns - winter sports domicile under monument protection
Samoëns
Skiing holiday in one of France's largest ski areas, with around 265 kilometres of slopes, staying in a charming mountain village at an altitude of 1,600 metres. If that sounds like your kind of holiday, Samoëns is the place for you. Just under 2,500 residents call this municipality home, which is the only ski resort in France that is completely listed as a historic monument! In order to protect the distinctive historic houses built from large natural stones, the village now focuses on "gentle tourism". And in other respects, too, the past and present collide in Samoëns. While the ancient tradition of stonemasonry continues to be cultivated here, the village has also recently invested in modern infrastructure, making it an attractive winter sports resort. This makes it very easy for winter holidaymakers to access the Grand Massif mega ski area. Two chairlifts take you directly from the village up to the Tete des Saix at an altitude of 2,125 m and from there to the three other connected ski areas.
Grand Massif
The ski region Grand Massif, located in midst of the Upper Savoyards, characterises itself by sheer endless diversity. Surrounded by a wonderful mountain landscape, dominated by the Mont-Blanc mountain range in the south, history meets modern age in a very unique way. Be it quiet and traditional, over centuries developed villages or just a basic station - the region offers incomparable contrast. Beginners just as experts will find what they are looking for here. The selection of easy and intermediate pistes is huge and very impressive. But also away from the slopes the region has much to offer. The wonderful mountain landscape can therefore also be explored on numerous cross-country trails or panoramic hiking trails, whilst quaint huts and restaurants invite you in to try their specialities.Travel Samoëns
