Ski holidays Bayerisch Eisenstein - Idyllic border town on the Großer Arber!
Bayerisch Eisenstein
Tranquil Bayerisch Eisenstein is the oldest and most densely wooded climatic health resort in the Bavarian Forest. It is nestled in the richly forested Eisenstein high valley between the Großer Arber (1,456 m) and the border with the Czech Republic. The fact that the German-Bohemian border, the Bavarian Forest National Park and the Czech Šumava meet here gives the town an international feel. It is home to Europe's only border railway station with a local railway museum, which the locals are very proud of. The town is also known for its long tradition of glass production. In the border glassworks, high-quality glass products in the Bohemian Art Nouveau style are still produced today under the curious gaze of onlookers in the show glassworks - the ideal souvenir! This rich culture, the clear air, the snow-covered forests and, of course, the cross-border skiing on the Großer Arber on the German side and the Špičák on the Czech side make Bayerisch Eisenstein an extremely attractive holiday destination.Bavarian Forest
The Bavarian Forest is central Europe's largest forest with 6,000 km² of wooded area. In 1970 the national park Bavarian Forest was created which, together with the Bohemian Forest, forms the largest coherent forestal nature reserve in central Europe with a total span of 900 km². Besides of the Alpine region, this region is also known for its affinity to winter sports. Families in particular will find exactly what they are looking for here. Those who prefer not to explore the Bavarian Forest on skis can also go on a romantic horse-drawn sleigh ride. The lovely castles and monasteries of the Bavarian Forest are definitively worth while a visit. Numerous restaurant and quaint huts, which offer both regional and international culinary highlights, should also be high on your list of to-do's.
