Ski holidays Malga Ciapela - peaceful ski resort at the foot of the Marmolada!

Malga Ciapela

Directly at the foot of the Marmolada, the highest mountain group in the Dolomites, lies the small ski resort Malga Ciapela, which belongs to the municipality of Rocca Pietore with just 1,228 residents. The peaceful location is perfect for a relaxing winter holiday, while still nevertheless offering the optimal starting place for all ski fans due to its proximity to the ski area.

The spectacular Marmolada cable car begins directly in Malga Ciapela and reaches the Punta Rocca panoramic terrace at a height of 3,250 metres within a few minutes. Here, you have a unique 360° view of the surrounding Dolomite peaks and can begin to discover the diverse ski area. The "Bellunese" is the longest ski slope in the ski region Dolomiti Superski, with 12 km, and forms the core of the Marmolada.

Marmolada

"Queen of the Dolomites" - that's how they refer to the mountain group Marmolada in the Alps. Between Veneto and Trentino the impressive peaks build up, surrounded by the rive Cordvole on the eastern side and the Fassa Valley on the western side. The highest peak is the Punta Penia at 3,343 m. In contrast to the majority of the Dolomites, the Marmolada is composed of grey limestone, so when the sun goes down a spectacular play of colours in red and violet tones manifest on the bright rock. Last but not least, as a result of the wonderful nature there, the Dolomites have been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Amidst the Dolomites, the optimal accessibility to the ski area Dolomiti Superski is offered. With 1,200 kilometres of perfectly prepared pistes, over 450 modern lift systems and 30 snowparks, Dolomiti Superski is among the largest ski areas in the world. The 12 km long "Bellunese" slope, with a starting point at an altitude of 3,269 m and leading down to Malga Ciapela at an altitude of 1,446 m, is the highlight of the ski area. Equally well-known and popular is the "Sellaronda", which traverses the four Dolomite passes over 40 km. Thick forests, snow-covered countryside and a breathtaking mountain panorama make this route a unique experience for every winter sports fan.

Away from the slopes, the Marmolada is a treasure trove for Ladin culture and tradition. The village of Sottoguda preserves its original charm, with its rustic houses and barns, along with old crafting traditions. Besides this, the approx. 2 km long natural canyon "Serrai di Sottoguda" is located here, which, with its icy waterfalls and walls, offers the most popular ice climbing wall in the Dolomites. If you follows the route of the canyon in the direction of Malga Ciapela, there are some sights to be found, like the Cascata du Franzei waterfall, the Sant'Antonio chapel and the statue of Madonna dei Serrei.
