Ski area Furkel

The ski area local to Trafoi is the family-friendly Furkel. The nine pistes with a total length of around 8.3 km are located above the village at an altitude of 1,570 m to 2,400 m and can be accessed through two chair lifts and one tow lift. The valley station of the chair lift is located at the village centre and goes up into the centre of the ski area over two sections. There, red and blue panoramic slopes are there for beginners and more advanced skiers. For more ambitious skiers, the roughly 1 km long black piste "Schönblick" starts from the highest point on the slopes. The majority of the slopes can be covered in artificial snow and the cosy Furkelhütte at an altitude of 2,250 m make for a cosy place for a rest. Near to the valley station is the Thöni-Piste, a very flat practice slope for children and beginners. Near the children's area, with a conveyor belt and baby slope, there is also the local ski school and a ski kindergarten.

For more variety on the slopes, a trip to the Sulden am Ortler ski area, approx. 15 km away, is worthwhile. With the "Sulden" ski pass, you have access to a total of around 52.3 kilometres of pistes and 19 lifts.

Rules of conduct on ski pistes in Italy

To ensure safety on the ski slopes in Italy, stricter safety regulations have been in force since 2022. In order to use the ski areas, everyone must have liability insurance that covers damage to third parties. It will also be possible to take out this insurance on site for individual days. Drunken skiing is prohibited and punishable by heavy fines, with a maximum of 0.5 mg of alcohol per litre of blood. To reduce the risk of injury, helmets are also compulsory for all minors when skiing, snowboarding or tobogganing.

Night skiing Trafoi

There is currently no night skiing in the Furkel ski area. However, in the Sulden am Ortler ski area, which is also included in the lift pass, the Rosim cable car with the Rosim piste and the Cevedale conveyor belt are floodlit every Wednesday evening.

Après ski Trafoi

In Trafoi, active sports and relaxation are in focus. The classic après ski parties at the lifts is less common here. In the resort, however, there is a pub and some hotel bars, that make for an inviting place to head for après ski after the lifts close. However, the stunning nature in this area is much more exciting. Hikers, cross-country skiers and snow shoe hikers really get their money's worth here. For winter hikes, two routes near to the resort are well recommended: the ascent to the Furkelhütte in the ski area, and the other to the place of pilgrimage "Heilige drei Brunnen".

The hike to the Furkelhütte is a medium difficulty tour of around two hours, which can be combined with a cosy stop. The ascent is worth it as from the Furkelhütte you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the mountain range in the Stelvio National Park.

For families with children, as well as for less experienced hikers, the easy route to the "Heilige drei Brunnen" church is recommended. There is not much of an ascent and the route ends after around 1.5 hours of walking in a piece of woodland above the resort.

A particularly special hiking experience can be found on a snow shoe hike. For this there are also various beautiful routes that lead through the Stelvio National Park. The starting point for many circuits around Trafoi is the ski area Furkel.

In the Ortler Arena there are multiple toboggan runs, including the longest run in Italy. The 10 km stretch leads from Rosskopf to Sterzing. Near Trafoi at the Weißen Knott, there is a 3 km long toboggan run, which guarantees fast-paced fun for the whole family. If you're interested in ice skating, you can travel the approx. 30 km to Reschensee, where ice skaters and ice hockey players romp about on the lake, given that temperatures are low enough.

Snowpark: Snowpark Trafoi

Unfortunately, the Furkel ski area does not have a snow park. However, the nearby "Sulden am Ortler" ski area is home to the Funpark Solda. At an altitude of 2,850 metres near the Madritschhütte hut, it offers all types of fun that a demanding freestyler could wish for. There is also a boardercross course in open terrain on the Madritsch glacier.
