Riezlern
The village of Riezlern, located at the entrance to the Kleinwalsertal valley and just a few kilometres behind the German border, lies at an altitude of 1,086 metres. Riezlern is dominated by the peaks of the Fellhorn (2,038 metres) and the Kanzelwand (2,058 metres). With its districts of Wald, Schwende, Unterwestegg and Egg, it is the largest municipality in the Kleinwalsertal valley in Austria. Its location makes it the ideal gateway to the Fellhorn/Kanzelwand ski area, which spans two countries and connects to Oberstdorf in Germany. Riezlern is considered the main town of the Kleinwalsertal valley and stretches along the Breitach river.In addition to its idyllic surroundings and a tranquil village with a parish church, the town also offers a range of entertaining leisure activities. Those seeking peace and quiet will find what they are looking for on a walk through the spa gardens. For those who want something more exciting, there is an evening at Casino Kleinwalsertal, Austria's smallest casino. Of course, winter sports such as skiing, snowboarding, tobogganing, snowshoeing and ski touring are also available. The Kanzelwandbahn cable car starts directly in Riezlern and takes winter sports enthusiasts comfortably to the ski area. Another highlight is the nearby Breitachklamm gorge, which is worth a visit at any time of year. Kleinwalsertal
Along the northern rim of the Alps, in Vorarlberg, lies the Kleinwalsertal, also known as the Kleines Walsertal (small Walser valley). This high-alpine valley reaches up to 1,250 m altitude and is surrounded by the mountain ranges of the Allgäu Alps. The enclosed geographical location, makes this area only accessible via the German side of the border, via Oberstdorf. The Walserschanze is the naturals border line between Austria and Germany and the only way into the valley. Towards the south, the valley is enclosed by the Große Widderstein (2,533 m), among other peaks, which form the border to the Vorarlberger Land.Along the spacious valley basin, the resorts Riezlern, Hirschegg, Mittelberg and Baad can be found. The idyllic villages are the perfect starting point for extensive mountain sports and excursions into the wonderful nature. Winter sports fans will find a great selection of pistes in a total of 4 skiing mountains, in both countries. This mountains include e.g. the Hohe Ifen (2,229 m) as well as the Fellhorn and Kanzelwand on the other side of the border.
